“Rock the Casbah” Rachid Taha (The Clash)

When I think of Algerian rock, one name comes to mind: Rachid Taha. Some say that Rachid Taha IS Algerian rock. I wouldn’t go that far because there is just so much great music coming out of Tangiers these days. But here’s Rach bringin’ it on his cover of “Rock the Casbah” by the Clash.

“Train in Vain” Annie Lennox (The Clash)

Maybe it’s my Ameri-centric world view that keeps me baffled at how many Brits make good soul singers. I mean, Annie Lennox is from Aberdeen, Scotland. That’s a long way from Tupelo, for those who don’t know. So while I definitely love her voice, which is soulful, I do not like this cover personally. But maybe you will, so here you go. Annie covers The Clash in “Train in Vain.”
